Thai Toys Exhibition: Fun with Science, Thinking through Play
(Mechanics of Play)
This exhibition is the result of collaboration between NRCT, the Association, and Chulalongkorn University in researching the “Mechanics of Play” in traditional Thai toys. It aims to reveal that Thai toys are not merely objects for entertainment, but creations born from wisdom that harmoniously blend science and art. Traditional toys such as slingshots, spinning tops, and balancing dragonflies all reflect fundamental principles of physics—centrifugal force, gravity, and friction—turning play into a natural form of scientific learning. This process enhances children’s skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and imagination, in line with STEM Education principles.
Beyond the scientific dimension, the exhibition also emphasizes cultural value as part of Thailand’s “Intangible Cultural Heritage,” connecting past and present generations through toys that reflect the way of life, simplicity, and creativity of Thai people across different regions.
