“Once Upon a Hair” Exhibition
“Stories of Hair and Head Art: Reflecting Thai Identity”
Under the project “Art Exhibition Festival of Four Regions in Bangkok”, aimed at integrating regional aesthetics with the creative economy, this exhibition presents Thai art through the story of hair and hair accessories. Hair and the head have long been connected to beliefs, lifestyles, and artistic traditions in Thai society, varying across regions and social contexts.
The organizers intend for this exhibition to promote Thai art and design, making it widely recognized and inspiring contemporary creations through the narrative of Thai hairstyles and hair adornments. The exhibition will be held from January 27 – February 4, 2024, at Central: The Original Store, from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM.
This exhibition explores the cultural significance of hair and hair accessories in Thailand through artistic interpretations, showcasing traditional and modern Thai hairstyles and their evolution over time, reflecting social beliefs and ways of life. It also highlights the design of hairstyles as expressions of identity and creativity, along with hair accessories such as combs, hairpins, and contemporary designs by renowned artists.
Additionally, the exhibition presents professions related to hair—such as barbershops and beauty salons—to illustrate Thai society’s values and aesthetic appreciation of beauty expressed through hair and head adornments.
